Hiring guide · Design
How to hire a
designer engineer.
Designer-engineers (DEs) write production code. The role is rarer than it sounds — most "designers who code" don't actually ship to production.
Comp range$160k-$300k base.
Timeline8-14 weeks.
When to hire
Hire in-house
You have continuous design + engineering crossover work, especially for marketing site or design-system.
When to outsource
Outsource to a studio
Most teams don't need a permanent DE. Hire a designer + engineer separately.
