What is
Product-Market Fit (PMF)?
When a product satisfies a market deeply enough that demand pulls it forward.
Definition
PMF is the elusive milestone where customers actively pull a product into their lives or businesses, retention is high, and growth becomes natural. Pre-PMF products struggle to grow despite great marketing; post-PMF products grow despite mediocre execution. The Sean Ellis test ("how would you feel if you could no longer use this product?") is one common heuristic.
Example
Notion in 2018 — once teams started using it for everything, growth became viral and acquisition costs collapsed.
