Definition

Tokens are the chunks an LLM operates on. A token can be a word, part of a word, a number, or punctuation. Pricing, context windows, and rate limits are all measured in tokens. As a rule of thumb: 1,000 tokens is about 750 words of English. Languages with non-Latin scripts (Chinese, Japanese, Arabic) may use significantly more tokens per word.

Example

The sentence "Vedwix builds AI products" is roughly 6 tokens.
