What is
LCP (Largest Contentful Paint)?

Core Web Vital measuring how fast the largest visible element loads — should be under 2.5s.

Definition

LCP measures the time from navigation start to when the largest visible element (image, hero text block, video poster) is rendered. It's a strong proxy for perceived load speed. Optimizations: image optimization, preloading critical assets, font strategy, reducing JS payload, using a CDN.

Example

A page with a 3MB hero image had 4.5s LCP; converting to AVIF and adding preload dropped it to 1.6s.
