What is
XML Sitemap?

A file listing all important URLs on a site, submitted to search engines.

Definition

A sitemap is an XML file (usually at /sitemap.xml) that lists URLs the site wants indexed, with optional metadata (last modified date, priority, change frequency). For large sites or programmatic SEO, sitemaps are how Google discovers thousands of new pages reliably.

Example

A pSEO site with 5,000 pages organizes them into 5 sitemaps by section, all referenced from /sitemap-index.xml.
